Wood and washable paint with papier-mâché objects, cm 30x24x30
Made in 2021 for the exhibition at the One Gallery in L’Aquila, the aediculae are the “drawings” with chalk made by children on the sidewalks: they are imperfect, they have the flavor of childhood, they are simple and white. They have the opposite function to the Christian newsstands that we are used to seeing on street corners. Inside there are no Madonnas to whom wayfarers ask for protection. Inside there is Nature (the sheep inside represent it) that implores us to protect it. The tendency towards white in the works of recent years expresses a desire not to invade, to erase. But in erasing, sometimes you see more. An example of this is Christo with his wrappings. “What is more important than white?” my father used to tell me. “If you have to make a drawing, take a blank sheet of paper!” I agree, and I decline my work on white. Like “my” sheep. They are white too.
